When I was in the second grade a boy in my class’ mum redesigned our school mascot. It was a big orange lion with words all in the mane. It terrified me. I couldn’t understand how she’d made it – was it a good photo of a drawing? A complicated cluster of pixels she’d placed one by one? I consulted him, seeking answers, but all he could offer was her job title: Graphic Designer. I promptly swore I would never be one of those.

15 years and a Bachelor of Design in Visual Communication later, I’ve changed my tune.
